Ear Training
Practice recognizing musical intervals, scales and chords by ear
Train recognition of intervals, scales, chords and progressions through listening and feedback, with microphone exercises for singing practice.
Key idea
An interval describes the distance between pitches; a chord combines pitches. Recognizing either depends on hearing relationships, rather than memorizing one recording or the absolute height of a note.
Try this first
Start with interval recognition at a comfortable level. Listen before choosing an answer, then use the feedback to compare what you heard. Repeat a small set of intervals before increasing the difficulty.
How to get started
- Choose a listening category and a suitable level.
- Listen, answer and review the feedback.
- Use singing practice if you want to compare your voice with a target pitch; it requires microphone permission.

Try another experiment
Practice a small set until you can explain what distinguishes each sound. When the exercise allows it, compare notes heard together with notes heard one after another. Notice which presentation is easier for you.
