Understand arithmetic through interactive mathematical pictures

Understand a calculation by manipulating its picture, then practice arithmetic and patterns with short interactive exercises.

Key idea

A visual model connects a number or operation with a quantity you can inspect. Equivalent fractions describe the same share using different partitions; an equation expresses a relationship that remains true on both sides.

Try this first

Choose a fraction or area exercise and inspect its picture before calculating. Change one quantity and predict what the result should do. Then use a short practice game to check whether the visual relationship has become familiar.

How to get started

  1. Choose a lesson such as Fractions, The balance or Shapes and area, or select a practice game.
  2. Follow the prompt and move the diagram or change its values. Compare the picture with the equation or measurement.
  3. Use hints when available and repeat with new values. Games track your progress as you practice.

Explore a little further

Try another experiment

Before revealing or checking an answer, predict the result and explain it using the picture. Change one value and predict again. Try to describe what stays the same as well as what changes.

Good to know

The exercises connect visual models with arithmetic practice. Work through a small set first, then use the feedback and saved progress to choose what to revisit.
