Binaural
Explore stereo tones and tune their binaural frequency difference
Explore the difference between two tones delivered separately to your ears. Headphones preserve the separation; the perceived beat rate is the difference, not a third tone emitted by the player.
Key idea
The base tone and the difference are independent controls. If the left channel is 200 Hz and the right is 206 Hz, their difference is 6 Hz. Stereo headphones keep the two tones separated between your ears.
Try this first
Set the base tone to 200 Hz and the difference to 6 Hz, then inspect the left and right frequency readouts. Their difference is 6 Hz; this does not mean a 6 Hz tone is being played through the headphones.
How to get started
- Use stereo headphones and begin at a comfortable low volume.
- Drag across the upper area to tune the difference and the lower area to tune the base tone.
- Double-click a frequency to enter an exact value. Open settings to explore waveform and ambience.

Try another experiment
Keep the difference fixed and change the base tone. Then keep the base fixed and change the difference. Compare the two kinds of change before adding reverb or harmonics; these additions alter the texture too.
Good to know
Binaural is a sound-exploration instrument. Frequency-band names are descriptive labels, not promises of sleep, concentration or therapeutic effects. It has no public Lite version; full access requires an eligible account.
Public Lite tools share 20 free minutes a day, without an account. New accounts receive a 10-day full-access trial without a card. Paid access continues under the selected plan.
